Bio
Thomas Alexander is a Biological Engineer and EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassador. He currently works as an EPO Young Professional in Biotech Patent Examination at the European Patent Office while completing his master’s degree in Biotechnological Engineering at BOKU, University of Life Sciences and Natural Resources, Vienna.
His research has explored diverse applications of biotechnology, from underground bioenergy storage systems developed through industry-academic partnerships to the creation of open-source protocols for hormone biomanufacturing as project manager of the 2023 Vienna iGEM team.
Across all his work, Thomas strives to connect research, entrepreneurship, and policy to accelerate biotechnological innovation. He is especially passionate about empowering young scientists to take an active role in building Europe’s bio‑based future.
